Fannie May Candy Kickoff Dinner

Monday, Sept 14 at Vince's Restrauant 7:00pm

Christopher Columbus Assembly will be kicking off it’s annual Fannie Mae Candy drive on Monday, Sept 14 at Vince’s Restaurant (web site - http://www.vincesonharlem.com/ ) , 4747 N Harlem Ave (Holiday Mall -the old Holiday Bowling Lanes-– Lawrence and Harlem), Harwood Heights at 7:00pm. Vance’s is a great Italian restaurant, and our menu will include a choice of entrees: Chicken Vesuvio, Steak Milano, Lasagna, Orange Roughly and Chicken Italiano. The cost of the dinner of $30.00 per person, and the Assembly is picking up 50% of that so your cost will be $15.00. All members are invited.

As mentioned, this will be our Fannie Mae Candy Drive kickoff. We will have candy to distribute to members who are interested in selling Fannie Mae candy bars. We have ordered a variety of bars again, including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and chocolate with almond, mint, peanut butter and crisps. The price of the bars went up this year, from .50 cents to .65 cents, but we have decided to keep the price at $1.00 so as not to have to deal with change when selling. Our proceeds will again go to benefit Seminarians, Pro-life and our other Knights of Columbus Charities.

When our drive began years ago, one of the driving forces behind it was to allow new members to get a set or regalia (cape/chapeaux/sword) and participate in Honor Guards. We will again be offering incentives for new members, 3 years or less, when they sell 2 cases of candy (a case has 144 bars, so 2 cases is 288 bars), they will earn a $100.00 credit for a piece of Regalia. If the regalia is more than the $100.00 credit the member is responsible for the difference. Existing members who have their regalia, will be eligible for a $50.00 credit for selling 3 cases, $75.00 for 4 cases and $100.00 for 5 cases. This credit can be used for new regalia, accessories such as a tuxedo, tux shirt or jewelry, or Assembly logo shirts, sweaters or jackets. Please note that items can either be purchased by the Assembly or can be purchased by the member and will be reimbursed when a receipt is submitted. Cash awards will not be distributed .

Selling the candy is very easy. The cost of a bar is $1.00, which is less than the normal price of $1.50 or more at the Jewel or Walgreens, and everyone loves Fannie Mae chocolate. Good places to sell are to friends and neighbors, and if you are allowed, at work. Also, at this price, you can even but some for yourself and family. The Assembly is also planning to have candy sales at some of our local church’s in the coming weeks.

We will be having a Candy Sale at Our Lady of Victory parish, on Sat Oct 23/Sunday Oct 24. Locations and dates will be published on our web site and in our email newsletters. Whether you plan to participate in our Candy drive or not, please join us for our dinner on Monday, Sept 15, and share some fellowship and fraternity with your Brother Knights. Please contact Webmaster SK Tom Kaiser at Assembly2349@sprynet.com if you are planning to attend the dinner so we can provide a count for the restaurant.
